Ubuntu Bafumbira United Association (UBUA) on Tuesday 8th October, 2024, delivered a donation of medical equipment to Kisoro health facilities.
Ubuntu is an association established to bring together Bafumbira around the world for common causes including Unity, Culture and socioeconomic development.
Mr. Twambaze Justus, the coordinator of UBUNTU in Kisoro, delivered the equipment on behalf of the association.
He told www.vomuhabura.com that last year, assorted medical equipment were delivered to Kisoro hospital, Buhozi Health center III, Iremera Health center III, Nteko Health center III, and Nyarusiza Health Centre III.
A handover letter addressed to the Kisoro Chief Administrative Officer, said this year’s donations are from the proceeds of Isangane 2023.
The association hosts an annual ISANGANE festival to celebrate culture, network and give back to community.
The letter was jointly signed by Ubuntu Chairperson, Mr Hillary Bisanga and Mr Alex Rezida, the patron.
“The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for ISANGANE2023 held in Kisoro on 26th December 2023 was to fundraise for the purchase of maternity equipment for Health Centre IIIs in hard-to-reach areas in Kisoro which we were not able to handle last year,” reads the letter in part.
This year, UBUA donates equipment to Bunagana Health Centre III, Busanza Health Centre III, Nyamasinda Health Centre III, Nyabihuniko Health Centre III, Nyagisozi Health Centre III, Nyakinama Health Centre III, Gasovu Health Centre III and Bukimbiri Health Centre III.
According to Twambaze, “each facility will be provided with 1 Hospital bed without casters, 1 Hospital Mattress, 1 Gynecological Bed with shoulder support, 1 four Screen panel, 1 drip stand and 1 Wheel chair.”
The items were received by Kisoro district leaders including the Chief Administrative Officer, Swaibu Balaba, LC5 Chairperson Abel Bizimana, Assistant DHO in charge of maternal and child care Dusabe Annet and Assistant RDC, Mr Nizeyimana John.
The leaders received the delivery at the Kisoro District Administration headquarters.
The CAO expressed gratitute to Ubuntu for playing a role in improving Kisoro’s healthcare. He pledged to ensure that the items are well utilised for the well-being of the community.
“We are grateful as Kisoro district local government for having a wonderful partner, Ubuntu, who is committed to providing quality services. We appreciate a good gesture of donating these medical equipment which is going a long way in improving service delivery in our health centres. we commit and pledge that we shall receive and utilise the items donated in the interest of the people of Kisoro and to the best of our ability,” said Mr Swaibu.
Mr Abel Bizimana, also a member of Ubuntu, commended Ubuntu for facilitating quality healthcare services in the district.
But Bizimana recommends that Ubuntu members cntinue utilising their positions to influence and advocate for improved services in Kisoro.
“Each of the members of Ubuntu has some influence where they work, where they live and if such influence if it can do such things like these ones of bringing more quality services to the people, that would be the noblest thing they can do to the people,” said Bizimana.
He added, “to me, Ubuntu has come in right time to do right things, and I commend them for even doing other things outside health, because the problems of Kisoro are so many.”
On her part, Dusabe Annet, commended Ubuntu, noting that most of delivery beds previously donated have proved to be long-lasting.
She however regretted that Kisoro’s health facilities lack resuscitation equipment and a neonatal care unit, which are necessary for mothers’ and babies’ critical care.
Kisoro district Assistant RDC, Mr Nizeyimana John, also commended Ubuntu, saying their method of work is different from other NGOs that seek to fleece the common person or maliciously influence government.
While representing the office of the Resident District Commissioner, Mr Nizeyimana appreciated the Ubuntu family and coordinators, pledging good use of the equipment.
Ubuntu-Bafumbira United Association (UBUA) is a voluntary association/CBO established to bring together all Bafumbira around the globe for a common cause of unity, cultural conservation and greater socio-economic empowerment. Its membership currently stands at 1,306 individuals, who pay an annual Shs50,000 subscription fee.
Previously, Ubuntu has held engagements with Executive Directors of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and Uganda Tourism Board to seek audience on the need to boost Kisoro’s infrastructure and tourism potential respectively.
