Residents and business operators in Kisoro Municipality have been given a 14-day ultimatum to voluntarily remove temporary structures and kiosks constructed illegally within gazetted urban areas.

According to a notice dated May 8, 2026, issued by the Office of the Senior Assistant Town Clerk of Central Division, the exercise is aimed at improving the outlook, sanitation, security, and orderliness of the municipality.

Authorities cited several laws supporting the move, including the Local Government Act Cap 243 of 1997, the Physical Planning Act 2010, the Building Control Act 2013, and the Public Health Act Cap 281 of 2023.

The municipal council warned that any person who fails to remove the temporary structures or kiosks within the specified period risks having them forcefully removed by the council without further notice.

“The main intention of the program is to restore order, promote sanitation and hygiene, restore beauty, and promote public security and safety of residents and property within the Central Business District,” part of the notice reads.

The council further advised affected individuals seeking clarification to visit the Central Division offices located along Kisoro–Bunagana Road or use the contacts provided in the notice.

The development is expected to affect several roadside kiosks and temporary business structures operating within Kisoro Municipality’s Central Business District.
