As the campaigns for Bukimbiri County by-elections take shape, the National Unity Platform (NUP) has decided to withdraw its candidate and channel all its support towards Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate James Owebeyi.
19 year old Joshua Mutabazi (NUP) agreed to step aside in a move aimed at galvanizing more support for the opposition in Bukimbiri County.
In a press statement released by NUP, the decision to withdraw the NUP candidate is to renew all efforts of working alongside forces of change.
The same statements says, in the same spirit, FDC has withdrawn its candidate in the Gogonyo Constituency by-election in Pallisa district in favor of NUP candidate Joseph Okoboi.
Owebeyi, Icumu Rya Bukimbiri commended the NUP party for being forward thinking adding that it is within a candidate’s right to support another.
Owebeyi, who was unable to campaign yesterday due to illness, had traveled to Mbarara for medical treatment.
He vowed to complete his campaigns with the full support of his party and promised to work for the people of Bukimbiri, once voted into power.
The move comes at a time when leading Opposition leaders Kizza Besigye and Robert ‘Bobi Wine’ Kyagulanyi of NUP say they will join forces as they explore new ways of regime change.
