The electoral commission has said 32,219 voters are expected to cast their vote in todays’ by election in Bukimbiri County, Kisoro district.
A total of 72 polling stations have been set up across the entire County. Tallying is expected to be done at Hope Mission main hall in Rubuguri town council, at the end of voting today.
Kisoro district returning officer Daniel Nayebare says, campaigns were conducted respectfully and no incidents were reported to his office.
Police presence has been beefed up alongside the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) to ensure security is harmonized.
For the first time ever, specialized drones will be deployed in the air to monitor the security of the elections in Bukimbiri County.
Kigezi region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate called for calm and civility in today’s elections.
Voice of Muhabura reporters on the ground report that there is relative peace and calm across most of the polling stations.
Voting has started off to a slow start at some polling stations as people have first gone to their gardens to prepare the land, ahead of the planting season.
A total of four Candidates are vying for the position of Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament.
These include Asgario Turyagyenda (Independent), Eddie Kwizera (NRM), Edward Mutabazi (Independent) and James Owebeyi (FDC)
