The National chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Museveni has today camped in Gogonyo County, Pallisa district to canvass votes for Hon. Derrick Orone at Obutet Primary School.
The Gogonyo County seat fell vacant after the Court of Appeal ruled that the incumbent, Derrick Orone was irregularly elected following a petition by his rival Issa Bantalib Taligola. (Independent)
The crowds, ever so cheerful and excited were happy to see President Museveni, knowing very well, that he could have opted to campaign in Bukimbiri County, Kisoro district instead.
In Bukimbiri County, the last day of campaigns has reached fever pitch and extremely stressful for some of the candidates.
Earlier today, NRM’s Eddie Kwizera Wa Gahungu along with his convoy collided with independent candidate Asgario Turyagyenda resulting in a fracas.
At least three journalists from Vision group, Uganda Radio Network and Daily Monitor get roughed up and their equipment confiscated by unidentified security personnel.
This is the first documented incident of violence against journalists during the entire campaign.
Just yesterday, the NRM camp led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja (Majegere) had a run-in with FDC’s James Owebeyi and his supporters who managed to return sanity to their camp after asking the NRM team to find their way.
A small victory of sorts for the FDC but an eye opener of the huge cracks in the NRM camp in Bukimbiri.
It is a safe bet, as history would show that where President Museveni campaigns, he usually gets what he wants, a win.
This has proven favorable for his the fountain of Honor but its benefits trickle down to the entire NRM party.
In a bid to galvanize the party and ensure a win on 11th August 2022, Minister for Security Jim Muhwezi, Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Co-operatives David Bahati and Sheema Municipality MP Dickson Kateshumbwa, all arrived today to join in the hunt for Eddie Kwizera’s vote.
The join forces on the ground including State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs (Kisoro Woman MP) Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, Kisoro NRM chairman Philemon Mateke, Kisoro LCV Abel Bizimana among others.
Resident District Commissioners from several districts in Western Uganda, comedians, musicians and business magnates are all in Kisoro, just for thing, to secure a win for NRM’s Eddie Kwizera.
Despite having such clout present to fortify NRM’s place come 11st August, two things cannot go unsaid.
Firstly, that the bulk of Kisoro’s NRM Members of Parliament include Paul Buchana (Kisoro Municipality), Dr. James Nsaba Buturo (Bufumbira East), John Kamala (Bufumbira North) and Alex Niyonsaba (Bufumbira South) have remained suspiciously quiet and distant.
Secondly, the number of supporters choosing independent candidates and Opposition have significantly grown, which is something to ponder about, in a land traditionally known to vote NRM 100%
