The Kisoro District Council has today unanimously passed a resolution that Kisoro Technical Institute in Nyakabande Sub County relocated in order to create room for John Kale Institute of Science and Technology (JKIST).
JKIST, which is a presidential pledge of 2017, has long been a pipe dream. Infighting among local leaders over the compensation of land owners has frustrated efforts by Ministry of Education and Sports to develop the institute on Rwivovo land.
During a council sitting today, the Kisoro District LCV Chairperson Abel Bizimana moved a motion that will see Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni expedite the development of JKIST on the land that formerly belonged to Kisoro Technical Institute.
The future of Kisoro Technical Institute now hangs in the balance as the council did not immediately identify where the only Government technical institute will find itself.
Kisoro Technical Institute has in recent months been struggling with management issues that has affected its enrolment.
Bizimana said the issue of where Kisoro Technical Institute will be re-located is an issue be discussed at a later stage.
The district speaker Amos Hakizimana subjected the district councilors to a vote by show of hands, which they complied with.

The future of JKIST is still not guaranteed as the Ministry of Education and Sports holds the final card in it becoming a reality.
