The Kisoro district football association (DFA) has threatened to lay very strict sanctions onto secondary schools in Kisoro district for not participating in the ongoing all secondary school football competitions.
With the Ministry of Education and Sports having given the resumption of sports competitions in schools the go-ahead, and a circular having been sent out to all schools in regard to this, the secondary school sports fraternity now has every reason to smile.
The event that was last played in 2020 under the sponsorship of Copa coca cola for boys and Fresh diary for girls, has resumed in most schools countrywide apart from a few districts including Kisoro in Kigezi sub region.
In a phone interview with voice of Muhabura, the Kisoro district Sports Officer, Mr. Twesingyire Erick noted that the competition will not be taking place in Kisoro district because all head teachers agreed so during their meeting.
He said that head teachers decided not to participate because their schools have a lot of debts due to covid-19 and they cannot spend part of the capitation grant into the game.
He however says that all primary schools in the district will participate in Kids athletics starting from 18th march 2022 at education centers, 25th march 2022 at coordination centers, 31st march at the district level and from 17th April to 26th April at the national level.
“I recently had a meeting with head teachers and they all agreed not to participate in Post primaries because they have no money. They say that their schools have a lot of debts to clear due to covid-19 and spending in sports would be wastage,” Twesingyire said.
Speaking in voice of Muhabura radio sports show on Tuesday at 4:00pm, the Kisoro district Football Association Chairman, Sunday Andrew condemned the decision made by head teachers saying that they are jealousy to their own students. He vowed not to provide referees in subsequent schools competitions unless schools seek forgiveness and apology.
“These Head teachers are very jealousy to their students. You can imagine a student, whose dream is to play football for the national team and other professional clubs, how will he or she achieve that? We are waiting for them as DFA and we shall not provide them with any assistance unless if they apologize,” Sunday said.
The Kisoro district DFA Delegate to FUFA, Ndambajje Alex, notes that school head teachers are corrupt and want to divert money meant for sports activities into their own activities.
Previously, our reporter spoke to the chairman for the Kisoro district secondary school head teachers association, Nuwe Dan commonly known as professor about the fate of sporting activities in schools and he said that students are busy in academics to compensate the time consumed by covid-19.
