There is still confusion over the flag bearer of the Nyarubuye LC3 Chairperson after two candidates in the just concluded NRM primaries were awarded the flag.
Ndibyariye Elnest Bucokori was declared the winner with 2,273 votes, while Sanyu Semafara Bernad came second with 1,452 votes.
However, Sanyu petitioned the NRM office, saying that his competitor had sought to lead in Nyarubuye Sub County, yet he is a resident of Rukundo Town Council.
The NRM tribunal later declared that Sanyu Bernad was the right flagbearer, saying Mr. Bucokori was not a resident of Nyarubuye.
Today, at 11:30 am, the Kisoro Returning Officer Ismail Takih nominated Mr. Sanyu for the seat on the NRM ticket, leaving confusion in Bucokori’s camp, who claims to be the rightful NRM flagbearer.
According to the documents in Bucokori’s custody, he was declared the flagbearer on September 22, while Sanyu was declared on September 25.
Bucokori told our reporter that he is the right flagbearer, having won the election held on September 16. On claims that he is not a resident d Nyarubuye Sub County, Bucokori says he is a resident of both Nyarubuye and Rukundo Town Council.
He claims to own a home, a business, and a school in Nyarubuye, as witnessed by the LC1 Chairperson, a one George.
By press time, Bucokori and his team had camped at the nomination station, waiting to be nominated on the NRM party ticket.
He added that if the Electoral Commission fails to nominate him on the NRM ticket, he will proceed to court.
