The Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF) has confirmed that at least two foreign tourists and their driver working with Gorillas Wildlife Safaris have today been attacked and killed.
The suspected rebels killed tourists and burnt their car in Queen Elizabeth National Park along Katwe road between Nyamununka and Kabatooro.
Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Spokesperson said the attack has been linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
Photos that have already leaked on Social media show images of a burned Land cruiser registration number UBF 303C.
Other images show deceased bodies of a Ugandan who could have been the tour Guide and driver as well as a corpse of a foreign national.
Kulayigye during a television interview with UBC did not divulge details on the identities of the deceased.
He further pointed out that the attacks by the ADF are cowardly and this will not deter the UPDF from completely wiping them out.
On Thursday 12th October 2023, Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) raided Kasese again, shooting one person dead and setting a trailer ablaze at Mpondwe Lhubiriha border.
The victim was travelling in the trailer with three others, one of whom was seriously injured and is currently admitted at Bwera General Hospital, while a woman occupant survived uninjured.
The fourth traveler has not yet been found.
The truck that was ambushed was carrying onions from Kisoro district to Mpondwe Lhubiriha border before it was burnt to ashes.
The latest attack in Queen Elizabeth National Park are likely to have negative effects on Uganda’s tourism sector.
