Having served Kisoro district on two occasions amounting to 4 years, Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajj Shaffiq Ssengoba Sekandi will relinquish his position this Friday.
Sekandi first served Kisoro between 2015 and 2018, before he was transferred to Kanungu district in the same position. He returned three years after, in 2022 until this Friday when he throws in a towel.
Voice of Muhabura understands that Sekandi is going for a two-years study leave.
“I requested for a two year’s leave without pay to further my studies, which was granted by my superiors in the President’s office. I sat for interviews and I received a Visa last year.” said Sekandi.
According to him, he will be flying to central London’s Kingston University to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business administration.
He dismissed rumours that he has resigned his position as RDC, but cited his passion for further education.
Addressing the media at his office this Wednesday, the former Kanungu RDC was grateful for the support from the Kisoro district staff, political leadership, and residents which has made his tour of duty a success.
“I wholeheartedly that Kisoro people for everything. I have been able to serve Kisoro people because of all of you.” He said.
Hajj Sekandi also boasts of having maintained the NRM’s grip on top of the political arena of Kisoro.
“I found here 5 NRM MPs, I have left 6 NRM MPs, and I call upon everyone to continue supporting the NRM party.
I also ask the contractors to uphold quality work on government projects. I have been making some of them repeat projects, but this year, the trend had changed. I thank them.” Sekandi said.
He also commended President Museveni who entrusted him with a leadership opportunity, which he says has greatly been a success.
Speaking to Voice of Muhabura separately, the Kisoro district LCV Chairperson, Abel Bizimana commended RDC Sekandi for successfully serving Kisoro district.
Bizimana contrasted Sekandi with his predecessor, retired Captain Peter Mugisha, with whom they had wrangles.
He credits the outgoing RDC for a smart record with no squabbles and open political inclinations.
The Kisoro district Speaker, Amos Hakizimana notes that Kisoro will miss Sekandi because he has been a man of action and a unifying factor for Kisoro district in all aspects of development.
Byensi Expendito, the Chairperson Chamber of Commerce and former Nyakabande LC5 Councilor reviewed Sekandi as a good administrator and a people’s person.
He commended him for being resourceful, friendly and accommodative, which became a bedrock for Kisoro’s unity and security.
The news of the Sekandi’s departure was on Tuesday received with shock on social media platforms, with some alluding to Kisoro’s political intrigue being worth it.
Some rumored that some of the district top shots had their grievances against him for not dancing to their tunes, an assertion he watered down.
Many Whatsapp users regret his departure, reminiscing his listening attribute and wise counsel.
According to Sekandi, he will handover his office to his deputy, Robert Tukamuhebwa this Friday, unless his replacement has arrived in Kisoro.
Our attempts to get more information about Sekandi’s replacement from the President’s office were not successful by Thursday morning.
