At least one person is admitted to St. Francis Hospital Mutolere in Kisoro district with a broken leg and serious head injury after being involved in a road accident with a Bismarkan bus at Kalengere, Rubanda district.
The identity of the injured person is still unknown however Rubanda Traffic O.C Ramathan Wakatuma said the injured person was a passenger on a bicycle being ridden by another who managed to jump off in time to save his own life.
The incident that occurred at 10pm last night saw the pedal cyclist and his colleague speed down Kalengere road where they met a parked tipper in the road being loaded with sand.
At the exact point of dodging the tipper, the cyclists encountered the Kisoro Bound Bismarkan Bus Registration number UAQ 395Q which swerved off the road to avoid killing the two people on the bicycle.
Ramathan Wakatuma says no passenger on the bus was injured however the bus was grounded in Rubanda pending further inquiries.
He cautioned road users to desist from over speeding and also warned sand miners who collect sand at night to stop the illegal activity.
Kigezi region Spokesperson Elly Maate said Road users must be mindful of their own safety while on the road.
