Hundreds of people yesterday gathered at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Mutolere, Nyakabande Sub County, Kisoro District to say their final goodbyes to the late Caroline Bavuga who passed away at the age of 79.
Caroline Bavuga succumbed to a stroke while receiving medical treatment at St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere on November 8th, 2023.
Charles Bavuga, one of her eleven children said it was remarkable that they got to spend over five decades with her children whom she raised in such a dignified manner.
Caroline Ikuze Bavuga was born on August 9th, 1944, in Busanza Sub County.
She trained to become a teacher at Nyamitanga College in Mbarara as well as Kinyamasika in Fort portal thereafter she came to practice her profession at Rwanzu and Mutolere Primary School.
In 1967, she got married to John Bavuga and they had 12 children together.
John Bavuga passed away at the age of 83 on December 15th, 2020, after an illustrious career as an educator and farmer.

Kisoro District LCV Chairperson Abel Bizimana praised her courage and determination to become a professional teacher during such difficult times in the country’s history, where succeeding as a woman in any given profession was not guaranteed.
“Despite having no father and mother, the Bavuga family should count their blessings to have had educated parents who strived to give their children the best life possible. In fact, if every household in Kisoro had such parents, our communities would be so much better”, Bizimana said.
Joan Bavuga, a resident of Michigan State and Vice President for Uganda North American Association (UNAA) 2021-2023 pledged to unite the family to ensure key projects that were dear to their dearly departed parents continue to thrive.
According to Joan, Mixed farming on BAFASO farm was very important to both their parents and as such the legacy will continue through their joint efforts to run the farm as a family.
Winnie Bavuga, who was living with her mother at their family home in Mutolere has played a significant role in ensuring the growth and sustainability of BAFASO farm.

She praised her mother for being firm in times of difficult and always look at the bright side of things which was an encouragement to anyone who really knew her.
