Police in Kisoro District has confirmed that one adult and two children are admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Mutolere Parish, Nyakabande Sub County after being involved in a serious road accident.
Officer in charge of Traffic Kushaba Micheal identified the driver of the motor vehicle Toyota Sienta registration number UBP 135Q as John Iyakaramye aged 28 and resident of Bikoro Village, Cyanika Town Council.
According to Kushaba, Iyakaramye borrowed the car from his uncle, only identified as Nkunda to drive to the Cyanika Border which is about 300 meters from their home.
The uncle agreed to hand over his vehicle to Iyakaramye who set off however little did Uncle Nkunda know that his bold nephew had no prior knowledge or experience of driving a motor vehicle.
Kushaba says, the driver only knew how to accelerate with little to no knowledge about the brake pedal.
“As Iyakaramye was driving down the road, he noticed two children attempting to cross the road. He attempted to dodge them by making a hard left turn with reducing the speed ramming into the signpost of the Magistrates’ Court of Cyanika”, Kushaba explained.
Kushaba says the vehicle rammed into the perimeter wall and eventually overturned.
The three victims were quickly evacuated by an ambulance from Clare Nsenga Hospital. The minors include Uwase Isabelle 3 years and Byishimo 7 years.
The driver is admitted to St. Francis Hospital with serious injuries along the two children who also sustained some injuries.
Medical sources at the hospital said the accident victims will make full recoveries.
Kushaba called on the public not to take life for granted by giving out their motor vehicles to people who do not having driving experience and have not presented a valid driving permit.
