By Francis Nzeyimana
Minister of State for youth and Children affairs Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi who also doubles as the Kisoro district Woman Member of Parliament has embarked on improving the quality of life for pregnant mothers who visit health facilities across Kisoro district.
Hon. Sarah Mateke, this week traversed various health centers giving out brand new delivery beds which she identified during her campaign trail, as one of the critical needs in the Kisoro health care system.
“It was my observation that most health facilities in the district had ordinary delivery beds like the ones people use in their homes which is simply unacceptable. Other health facilities had very old delivery beds, said Mateke.
Hon. Sarah explained that it is so disheartening to find a pregnant mother coming to the health facility to bring a brand new life into this world in such poor conditions.
During her tour, Hon. Minister Sarah Mateke visited Kagano HCIII, Nyarusizia HCIII and Muramba HCIII.
Health Workers Speak out
The In charge of Nyarusiza HCIII Moses Munyaneza appreciated Hon Sarah for supporting the health center.
“Each time, the honorable Minister brings something important to the district, she never forgets health facilities and that means she values the lives of Ugandans, said Munyaneza
The In charge of Muramba HCIII Mbaga Evally said the biggest challenge they often experience at the facility, is having more than three mothers delivering at the same time. He notes that a new delivery bed is a great boast to the health facility.
According to Kisoro district Local Government, the total fertility rate of Bafumbira is 8.5 (2002 census) which is very high.
