Kisoro Police has enhanced investigations and instituted a manhunt for the 28-year-old man who murdered his 4 relatives in cold blood in Kageyo village Busengo Parish Nyarubuye Sub County.
The suspect, Ndikumukiza Gerald armed with a machete cut and killed on spot his 80-year old father Sebitama Deogratious, his 75-year old mother Nyiraguhirwa Bonconsira, his 26-year-old sister-in-law Mujawimana Maliserina and his wife Nyiramahoro Joan, aged 20.
It is alleged that yesterday, at around 9 pm, the suspect Ndikumukiza Gerald who is a resident of the same place got a machete and attacked the four people all his relatives who reside in the same place and cut all of them to death.
During this attack, he first killed his wife Mujawimana Mariserina, thereafter killed Nyiramahoro Joan, the wife of the brother Habyaremye George, then proceeded to kill the father Sebitama Deogratious and ended with his mother Nyiraguhirwa Bonconsira.
The suspect is said to have arrived yesterday from Masaka where he had been working as a casual labourer with his brother Habyaremye George.
The motive of the killing is not known although he has a history of mental illness.
Police visited the scene, recorded statements from witnesses and the four bodies were by press time still at the scene pending postmortem, while the suspect remains on the run.
Edward Irakiza, the suspect’s 8-year-old son was also injured in the attack. Irakiza said that the gruesome incident happened at around 10:30 p.m. when his father started cutting Mujawimana the wife, and when the parents tried to intervene, they were also cut to death.
Nimanya Godson, the Kisoro CID officer blamed the incident and asked residents to join hands in search of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the suspect left the letter behind and his clothes including, a shirt, gumboots, a soda Novida, and sandals.
Irakiza said that when he saw his father killing his grandparents, he tried to run away but his father threw at him, a sharp machete which injured his left hand.
Robert Hashakimana, a member of the family, said that Irakiza came to them running and told them that Ndikumukiza, who had just returned from Kyazanga – Masaka had cut down his parents. On reaching the scene, he found 4 bodies lying in a pool of blood.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirms the incident saying the motive of the killing is not known although the suspect has mental illness history. By press time, the four bodies were still at the scene pending collection to be taken for post-mortem as inquiries into the matter and the hunt for the suspect commenced.
