Self-assured Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu has said he is a tested leader who has the ability to lobby for various projects because he understands how Government operates.
Wagahungu made the remarks yesterday while meeting with NRM leaders from the Seven Sub Counties of Bukimbiri at Rubuguri town council hall.
The leaders present at the meeting made a unanimous decision to support Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu as the NRM flag bearer and resolved to campaign for him until victory is realized on 11th August 2022.
Wagahungu seeks to return to the 11th Parliament as Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament after his brief stint was disrupted by a high court ruling which ordered for a fresh election.
While addressing journalists in Rubuguri yesterday, Wagahungu said his brief stay in Parliament has seen him lobby for road equipment that have been used to rehabilitate some of the tourism roads in Bukimbiri County.
Mr Wagahungu scoffed at some of the party members who are intending to support an independent candidate instead of directing all their support behind him.
He described them as fearful people who need to consult with him for ideas instead of exposing their inexperience.
Earlier this week, a section of NRM leaders subscribing to the Kisoro Leaders Forum headed by Bufumbira North Member of Parliament Hon. John Kamala Nizeyimana said the By –elections in Bukimbiri has attracted one other potential candidate (independent ) who has confessed his support for the NRM party.
According to the leaders, such candidates should be given an opportunity to canvass for votes without any limitations.
Director of Communication at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat Hon. Emmanuel Lumala Dombo asked local leaders of Kisoro district and the clergy to desist from Politics that is inclined to religious and tribal lines that is likely to divide communities and drag people back to past regimes.
“The NRM party was founded on principles of unity, equality and protecting human rights of those with divergent views. I humbly request some of the clergy and all people to concentrate on guiding locals other than dividing them”, Dombo said
While appearing on Voice of Muhabura radio last night, Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajji Shafiq Sekandi said Bukimbiri By-elections should be for the people of Bukimbiri only.
Sekandi said candidates planning to ferry people from outside Kisoro to cause commotion and instability have been warned adding that Police and the army will be deployed to ensure the campaigns and elections run smoothly.
The Bukimbiri By –elections have attracted other candidates including Asgario Turyagenda (Independent), Owebeyi James (FDC) among others.
