Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, the Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament has issued a stern warning against all Civil servants deployed to work in Bukimbiri to desist from absconding duty and deliver services to the people.
Hon. Wagahungu made the remarks during his tour of Nyabwishenya, Kirundo and Nyundo Sub counties yesterday where he directed that all Local Council leaders in the area should pin up papers at the headquarters showing the names, job description and telephone contacts of civil servants for people to reach them easily.
“It has come to my attention that many civil servants deployed to work in Bukimbiri abscond duty and this affects service delivery in the area and yet they are being paid salaries from taxpayers’ money, Wagahungu said.
While addressing the constituents, he observed that Bukimbiri is still lagging behind in terms of access to services including water, good roads and telecommunications.
“I have advised the Local leaders to identify possible sites for where we can develop water sources as we wait for the water from Bunyonyi. People need to get access to safe clean water as soon as possible”, Wagahungu explained.
He noted that his term in Parliament has been rudely interrupted by the By-elections which he secured a win and will use the remaining time and resources to lobby for services quickly.
Hon. Wagahungu says he intends to make a return to Parliament in 2026 in order to regain the two lost months that were stolen from him by those who do not wish to see development in Bukimbiri.
Dog Owners vs. Sheep Owners.
During the tour, several residents raised an issue of dog owners failing to control their animals that have so far eaten over 150 sheep in the area.
Local leaders in the area say they petitioned the office of the RDC, DPC but this did not yield any positive results.
Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu advised that anyone who fails to control his dogs and they eat any livestock must re-pay for the lost animal including a fine.
He noted that people with dogs must be mindful of their neighbors’ property, and this cannot be negotiable.
Corruption on District Service Commission
Hon. Wagahungu said he was appalled to learn that the allegations levied against the DSC are true because of the odd irregularities being discovered.
He cited a recent recruitment where the DSC advertised for two positions but ended up appointing ten people.
Wagahungu vowed to wage a war against such impunity in the district that negatively affects development and brings into question the NRM Government’s capacity to be fair, transparent and for above all, for all the people of Uganda.
