The Chairperson of Pensioners in Kisoro district Lawrence Ryumugabe was yesterday finally laid to rest at his ancestral home in Shozi, Nyakabande Sub County, Kisoro district.
Ryumugabe aged 79 succumbed to blood pressure while at Mbarara Hospital after the best efforts were made to save his life.
Paul Nzabandora of Universal Pharmacy says, Mulefu, as he was commonly referred to by close friends and family came to see him seeking medication to relieve serious headache.
“I could immediately tell that something was not right when Mulefu failed to disembark off the motorcycle. At this point, he was no longer speaking, so I recommended he be rushed to Dr. Nkomeje’s clinic, Nzabandora narrated.
Mr. Lawrence Ryumugabe had been involved in a near death experience a few years back, while in Kampala when the motorcycle he was moving on along Old Kampala was involved in an accident.
Ryumugabe hit his head on the tarmac but is believed to have made a full recovery since that time.
While eulogizing their late father, the children described the Late Ryumugabe as a loving and caring husband to their ailing mother.
According to the children, Dad loved and cared for mom with everything he had, till she took her last breath.
They also described as a firm disciplinarian who never minced his words. He valued education and strived to give his family a good life.
Several friends and colleagues from Kabale said they will always remember him as a man who did his utmost best in everything he set his mind on.
He loved people and did whatever he could to make other people’s lives better.
Rev. Fr. Deus Maniragaba described the late Ryumugabe as an excellent steward who had been serving in the capacity of treasurer at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, shozi.
Fr. Deus Maniragaba urged Christians to remain steadfast in the truth even when it does not seem appealing to many.
He challenged Christians to desist from fake diplomacy that only offers lip service but no authentic actions is taken towards a just cause.
The Kisoro LCV chairperson Abel Bizimana said the people of Shozi village and the entire Kisoro district should count themselves blessed to have known Mr. Lawrence Ryumugabe.
Bizimana says the late Ryumugabe was one of the great supporters of the John Kale Institute of Science and Technology (JKIST)
“I am deeply saddened that Mzee will not be here to see how his efforts will have paid off when JKIST is finally realized in Kisoro district”, Bizimana said.
