The Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Richard Todwong has said, he is the right man to get John Kale Institute of Science and Technology for the people of Kisoro district.
Todwong made the remark yesterday while addressing majority NRM leaders of Kisoro district at the district council hall in Kisoro Municipality.
Accompanied by some of the top NRM executive managers, Todwong says the purpose of the visit to Kisoro was to harmonize the Party Manifesto with all its leaders at district level.
“As we carry out stock taking among our leaders, it is important to remember to implement the party’s manifesto at all levels of leadership in terms political governance and finance, Todwong explained.

Todwong further pledged to be Kisoro’s only proxy in attaining John Kale Institute of Science and Technology that was pledged back in 2017.
Since that time, the dream of having a University in Kisoro has failed to leave the ground.
According to Build Cost Associates, Construction of John Kale Institute of Science and Technology in Kisoro district currently stands at Pre Contract Stage with a budget of 3,118,000,000
Back in 2019, while President Yoweri Museveni was concluding his Wealth Creation tour in Kigezi region at Gisorora playground, the electorate led by Kisoro district LCV chairperson Abel Bizimana stressed the importance of having an institution of higher learning in the district.
The proposed site of 168 acres to construct the University at Rwivovo in Nyakabande Sub County has been entangled in Court battles with claimants demanding up to 6.8 billion shillings in compensation.
During yesterday’s meeting, JKIST’s biggest advocate and Kisoro district LCV chairperson Abel Bizimana issued an ultimatum to Todwong and his team to get ball rolling on the University or risk losing 100% voter turn in the next general elections in 2026.
“You cannot claim to love the people of Kisoro when you have failed to honor our pledge. Educating our children up to the highest level of learning is one way of proving your love for us, so please get it done, Bizimana said
Kisoro District NRM vice chairperson Ramadhan Ndikezye said it is important that all NRM leaders in the district recognize the party’s effort in trying to harmonize its issues through consultation.
He commended Todwong for making the long trip to Kisoro to meet with the leaders, some incumbent and others currently out of active politics.
“It is true that some of our leaders have never met to sit down under one roof to discuss issues after the NRM party primaries however we commend the efforts of the party towards reconciliation and harmony “, Ndikezye said.
A report by Citizen’s Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) reveals that the NRM Party Primaries held back in September 2020 were poorly managed resulting in nationwide violence and enmity among candidates.
