The territorial police in Kisoro district is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 53-year-old man, Evarist Nzabarinda, who was allegedly murdered by his younger brother.
The suspect is 35-year-old Maniriho Zaire. Both the deceased and the suspect are residents of Gakoro cell, Gasasa ward, Bunagana town council in Kisoro district.
“It’s alleged that on the 03/04/2025 at an unknown time, at Gakoro cell, the suspect murdered his elder brother after which at around midday, reported himself to Bunagana police station where he was arrested and charged accordingly,” said Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson.
Maate adds that “it was established that the two have been staying together in the house and with a land conflict for long.”
Police arranged for the postmortem and statements of relevant witnesses were recorded, as the scene of crime was visited, processed and documented by O.C station Bunagana and his team.
Maate advised that, “people should learn to live together in harmony and if they develop any type of grievances, they should always utilize the services of local leaders and other relevant offices in place, rather than taking the law into their own hands.”
He added that the suspect will be arraigned before courts of law and answer charges accordingly, upon the completion of inquiries.
