Kabonye Gregory shocked his neighbours of Gakware in Muramba Sub County, Kisoro district when he hanged himself this Monday, 30th October 2024.
The body of 56-year-old Kabonye was first seen by a one Nyirantungane, who was bypassing in the footpath going for her usual work.
She saw the deceased swinging on the rope hanging on a tree at around 12:00 pm.
Thinking the deceased was still alive, Nyirantungane made an alarm, alerting other villagers who rushed to cut the tree.
A statement shared by Kigezi regional police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate indicates that unfortunately, it was too late because Kabonye had breathed his last.
The matter was reported to police by Kamili Fabian, a resident of Gakware village, Sooko parish in Muramba sub county.
Sources from the family recall that the deceased had previously attempted to end his life in vain. Residents of Gakware say he was a regular drunkard who stayed alone in his house.
Maate says police visited and documented the scene, while the body was examined on site and handed over for burial, as investigations continue.
