The European Super League might have failed to come to realization after UEFA threatened clubs to abandon the new creation but that has not stopped the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to carry-on with the idea.

As the CAF Executive Committee convenes in Morocco today, the aforementioned League will be one of the items to be discussed.

A brain child of the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, the new League is aimed at generating more revenue.

Infantino has been preaching the Gospel of the Super League since 2019 and the CAF top brass led by President, Patrice Motsepe seem to have bought into the idea.

“We have been following the attempts by some top European clubs to form a Euro Super League and will learn from their experience and pitfalls.” Motsepe said about the proposed League.

“We are assessing and in preliminary discussions to start an inclusive and broadly supported and beneficial CAF African Super League,” he said in a statement.

In some of the proposals, the African Super League would consist of 20 permanent member clubs and others that would qualify via regional competitions.

The new League according to estimations would generate $3 billion in a period of 5 years.

The idea has however not come with criticism. Some argue, the League would only benefit the powerhouse clubs who can afford to play given their financial muscle
