The Diocese of Muhabura has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fabrication Systems Uganda Limited for the roofing of its new cathedral building at a cost of UGX 1.15 billion, with the works expected to be completed within 52 weeks.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday in a move that church leaders described as a major milestone towards the completion of the cathedral, which is expected to accommodate more than 3,000 worshippers upon completion.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Ruzaza stephen, said the roofing contract is valued at UGX 1,154,852,478 and will be executed within the timeframe agreed upon by both parties.
Ruzaza noted that the signing of the agreement marks the beginning of a crucial phase of the construction project and expressed optimism that the contractor will deliver quality work within schedule.
The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, appealed to Christians, well-wishers, and development partners to support ongoing fundraising efforts aimed at completing the cathedral.
He said the project belongs to the entire Christian community and urged people to contribute generously, emphasizing that “a hand that gives is a hand that receives.” Bishop Mbitse confirmed that the agreement had been formally signed and that roofing works would commence immediately.
Representing Fabrication Systems Uganda Limited, Mr. Bipin Loharuka assured church leaders and the public that the company has the capacity and expertise to complete the roofing works within the agreed 52-week period.
Meanwhile, Engineer Benoni Nteziryayo of J&B Technical Services, the firm that contracted the construction project, said the cathedral has been designed to accommodate more than 3,000 people, making it one of the largest worship centres in the region.
Once completed, the cathedral is expected to serve as a major spiritual and community landmark for the Diocese of Muhabura and the wider Kigezi sub-region.
