What does it take to be a woman?

As a young woman in my 20’s, I am often judged about the things I do, what I wear, what I say and I’m often forced to be a different person.

If you asked your grandma, she would say a woman is a lady who has established her own home with a husband and children.

If you asked your elder sister, she would probably describe a young lady as someone ready to take on responsibility for her life.

My best friend Flavia says, “A woman is one who accepts and loves her body and is willing to share her life with others.”

Women around the world have been defined differently but wouldn’t you agree that these are some of the qualities that make up a woman?

As we celebrate Women’s day this year, it’s important to recognize that a woman is an important figure to each one of us.

To some, a woman is a friend, daughter, a sister, wife, mother and a pillar of each family.

Growing up, women have been judged basing on cultural and societal expectations however, this is quickly changing.

When God planned the world more than 2000 years ago, (Gen 2:18-24) I’d like to imagine that He wanted a perfect companion for a man.

The world however has not always seen things that way. In the 21st century, women still struggle with identity crisis, lack of a voice and a purpose.

This should not discourage an everyday woman.

As a young woman in my 20’s, I am often judged about the things I do, what I wear, what I say and I’m often forced to be a different person.

Many times, those I look up to and believe in have failed to notice my potential and sometimes I wonder if this is because I am a woman.

Certainly, I have been hurt and offended but I am neither weak nor apologetic.

I am proud to be a woman and so should you.

Today, I write for the beautiful woman whose menstrual cycle gets so bad that they need to go to the hospital.

I write for the graceful woman who has lost her beautiful body shape to child bearing but still has enough love for her children and herself.

I write for you, virtuous woman who has made a decision to keep yourself untainted believing in the good of the world.

To you ambitious woman, the world is your oyster. Don’t let anyone discourage you.

After more than two years of COVID 19, women just like men have a great role to play in this world.

This year’s theme, gender equality for a sustainable tomorrow should remind us that we are all important before man and God.

To inspire like I have been inspired should be every woman’s dream encouraging each other along the way.

HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY 2022
