As Uganda joins the rest of the world to celebrate women’s day today, mothers and caretakers have been encouraged to support children with special needs instead of hiding them away from the public eye.
Sharon Ntakirutimana aged 27 is a Gakenke village, Gitovu Parish in Busanza Sub County. She is currently employed as a medical laboratory technician at Nyakabande HC III
Ntakirutimana graduated with a Diploma in Medical Technology. Her height of less than 100cms (3 feet) was never an issue for her despite being teased and insulted for her height deficiency.
While speaking to our reporter Francis Nizeyimana, Ntakirutimana says her life choices were greatly influenced by her family which never discouraged her from living a full life.
She admits being teased at a younger age but now she is able to provide for all her needs and even contribute to the development of Uganda.
Sharon Ntakirutimana is one of the few women born with a physical limitation but has managed to turn her fortune around.
According to Ntakirutimana, many girls, especially those with disabilities are hidden away from the community and yet God created everyone with a purpose.
She said more women need to find the courage to pursue their dreams if they wish to have fruitful and productive lives.
Nizeyimana probed to find out if Ntakirutimana is involved in a relationship and she simply replied that her life is surrounded by people who wish to make happy memories and at the right time, a more meaningful relationship will eventually happen.
