The State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi has called upon women in the district to unite if they are to realize development.
Hon. Sarah Mateke, who is also the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament says, she decided to join hands with other women leaders to clean the town.
Hon. Mateke says, one of the signs of a healthy and stable home begins with the level of cleanliness which often falls in the docket of wives and mothers.
The act of cleaning Kisoro town and other neighboring places comes with only a few days to International Women’s day celebrations, held every year on 8th March.
According to Hon. Sarah Mateke, the lives of women in some communities are still not recognized however under the current leadership of NRM, many women have managed to progress in Education, leadership and business.
“As we prepare to celebrate this day, I encourage all women to join us. We shall a number of activities including sharing ideas on how we can make our lives better”, Nyirabashitsi explained
The chairperson of Kisoro women’s council Lydia Mugisha says cleaning the town is one way of taking up ownership and being responsible.
Mugisha says Women still have an uphill struggle in having their voices heard in some issues like child bearing, domestic violence and education however when more women become empowered, Kisoro will begin to experience a new wave of positive change.
She encouraged more women in other sub counties to join in the cleaning exercise of their towns and set a standard for all men led communities.
