Kabale – Two suspected killers of a 45-year-old woman at the Uganda-Rwanda border of Katuna in Kabale district survived a mob attack last evening.
The suspects; Amos Byaruhanga alias Kaboy and Samuel Saturday, both residents of Katuna Town Council are accused of killing Flora Muhirwe, a resident of Kanyanjoka village, Kacerere ward.
Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate says that Muhirwe was last seen with Byaruhanga on Tuesday evening in one of the hidden bars at the Katuna border. However, she was found lying dead in an abandoned house that belongs to Amos Mugisha on Wednesday morning.
“…this woman was seen at around 10:30pm in the company of one Kaboy, otherwise it is very unfortunate and I want to condemn it..” Maate said.
Last evening, a group of locals led by the deceased’s relatives traced Byaruhanga and Saturday and found them hiding in a bush. The two were beaten using clubs but the mob was dispersed by police led by Henry Kisembo, the acting Kabale District Police Commander.
The suspects who were heavily bleeding with wounds, unable to stand and talk due to the beatings were rescued and taken to Kabale Hospital where they are admitted. Kisembo warned locals against such acts of revenge saying that they are against the law.
Moses Turinawe, one of the angry locals told our reporter that their aim that police thwarted was to kill the suspects as a warning to other criminal elements in the area.
