The Police in Kabale have in their custody a 16 year girl who is suspected to have given birth to a bouncing baby boy and dumped him in a latrine.

The girl, whose identity has been withheld because of her tender age, reportedly wrapped the baby in a polythene bag and threw him in pit latrine.

He says that the case was reported to Police at Nyanja by one Kapare Robert who hails from the same village, prompting Police to rush to the scene and rescued the one day old baby.

Maate says that the baby who had not yet died was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where he was immediately admitted and put on medication and is doing well.

“Police managed to trace the mother of the baby and was arrested and is being detained at Kabale Police Station” Maate said.

A case of attempted murder has been registered at Kabale Police Station under reference number CRB 652/2020 to help in further management of the case.

However, Maate has says that since it has been established that the girl was below 18 years, a case of defilement will be preferred against the man who impregnated her.

“We have instructed the District Police Commander Kabale to establish if a case of defilement was ever reported at the Police and if not, a suspected defiler must be sought and be arrested” Maate said.
