Residents of Kisoro District have been urged to strictly observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Ministry of Health Uganda following reports of suspected Ebola cases in the district.
The Kisoro District Health Officer, Dr. John Bosco Muhangi, made the appeal on Sunday May 24, 2026 while addressing the public on the current health situation in the district.
Dr. Muhangi cautioned residents against overcrowding, handshakes and unnecessary body contact, noting that such practices increase the risk of Ebola transmission within communities.
He encouraged members of the public to maintain proper hygiene, regularly wash their hands and cooperate with health workers in implementing the preventive guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.
According to Dr. Muhangi, Kisoro District has so far registered three suspected Ebola cases.
Dr. Muhangi explained that laboratory test results for two of the suspected cases returned negative, while one individual remains in isolation awaiting official laboratory results.
He urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, emphasizing that community cooperation is critical in preventing and controlling the spread of the disease.
