A total of 37 youth groups in Kisoro district have been supported with piglets valued at 40 million Ugandan shillings meant to improve on their household incomes.
The handover of the piglets was yesterday conducted by the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashisitisi at the Shaaza Play grounds, Kisoro Municipality.
Hon. Nyirabashisitisi is also the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs in the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development.
While addressing the youth, Hon. Mateke said it is important that beneficiaries take good care of the piglets allowing them to grow and increase in number.
The pigs will be given to other youth through a revolving scheme.
She further cautioned them against selling the piglets but to persist and overcome the temptation of getting quick money from selling to pork joints.
The beneficiaries hailed from Nyarusiza and Bukimbiri Sub Counties as well as Nyanamo Town Council.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafiq Sekandi said Government is committed to supporting the youth through projects that can empower the nation to be self-reliant
Nyarusiza Sub County Councilor John Mfitumukiza called on the youth to be wise and use the piglets as a starting point to growing their capacity to develop agro-businesses.
Kisoro district LCV chairperson Abel Bizimana said all naysayers of the NRM Government need to recognize the commitment by Government towards a positive future for the youth in Uganda.
