Two out of three unarmed boda boda riders from Kisoro District who were recently abducted from the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have safely returned to Uganda.
Bruno Nizeyimana and Maniragaba Abel, both members of Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators (KUBO) were safely handed over to Ugandan authorities however their colleague Fidel Kamari from Murora Sub County is still missing.
Alarms were made on 10th October 2023 on the social media handles of Kisoro District LCV Chairperson Abel Bizimana who said three men had been abducted for unknown reasons while in the DR. Congo.
Kisoro Deputy RDC Robert Tukamuhebwa said intelligence and cooperation from community members across borders yielded their release.
He admitted that the three boda riders could have engaged themselves in some dubious deeds which could have resulted in their capture.
He noted that the territory in Eastern DRC near Kisoro is relatively safe, and people are free to cover over to carry out trade in agricultural produce and other non-harmful items among others.
Tukamuhebwa said Ugandan security is still trying to negotiate the release of Kamari Fidel adding that no ransoms have been asked.
The families of the three men are now asking Government to expedite the release of the third man who is stuck in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kisoro LCV Chairperson Abel Bizimana said he will not rest until the third man is released from captivity.
