The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, August 18, 2025, at around 7:00 AM in Kigyeyo Village, Nyanamo Town Council.

According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, it is alleged that on Sunday evening, at about 6:00 PM, Private Kwesiga went to watch the English Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal at Nyanamo Trading Centre. He reportedly returned to his unit around 9:00 PM and told his colleagues he was tired and needed rest.

He then entered his unipot and locked himself inside. The following morning, around 7:00 AM, a gunshot was heard from his room. Concerned colleagues rushed to check on him. After getting no response, they peered through a back window and saw him lying in a pool of blood.

They forced the door open and confirmed that he was dead.

Police and UPDF officers responded promptly. The area was secured, and investigators recovered a rifle with four magazines and a used cartridge. Witness statements were also recorded.

The body was taken to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination and later handed over to UPDF command for burial arrangements.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the suspected suicide.
