The canoe first took four people, but as soon as they left the shores, a strong wave hit the canoe, and the four drowned. However, two of them managed to swim back to the shores, while two others drowned.

Those who drowned have been identified as Nigaba Richard aged 24 and Gaspari Yumvirusaba of 33 years, both residents of Maregamo village, Chibumba parish in Murora Sub County.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Voice of Muhabura said that hopes for finding them alive were less.

By press time Monday evening, residents had not managed to retrieve the bodies, but searching for the bodies resumes this morning.

Police has not yet commented.

Two weeks ago, three young boys drowned in Lake Mutanda while returning from collecting firewood. Only one managed to swim to the shores, while the bodies of the two were retrieved after three days of searching.
