The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwine has said all Health facilities at Sub County level in Kisoro District need to be fully functionalized.
The comments were made yesterday during a one day working visit to Kisoro where Maregamo HC III in Nyamatembe Village, Murora Sub County was commissioned and officially opened to the public.
According to a report of the Auditor General on financial statements of Kisoro District Local Government of 2019, Maregamo HC II was upgraded to HC III using funds from the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UgIFT).
A total of 500,000,000 Ugandan Shillings was availed by the Ministry of Health to Kisoro District Local Government upon signing a contract with M/S Ricky Building Materials.
The report indicates that Delays in Roofing works, floor concrete slab not done, Drainage works, and Electrical works were as a result of a hybrid procurement system adapted by the Ministry of Health.
Kisoro district leaders yesterday had a reason to smile during the long-awaited commissioning exercise at the facility.
Dr Atwine, in remarks on X, formerly twitter said, “the last time we visited this place, the people of Murora Sub County had to walk long distances to access care on every small referral. We are glad that today many mothers, children, men and elderly will benefit from this infrastructure and expanded Human Resources for better health care”, Atwine said.
Assistant District Health Officer Annet Dusabe says the health facility will now be able to offer services that include in-patient, immunization and family planning as well antenatal.
In a related development, a new Intensive Care Unit at Kisoro Hospital that was constructed and equipped with resources mobilized by Dr. Arthur Kwizera was officially launched yesterday.
The New ICU that cost close to 2 billion Shillings will be used to enhance acute care services and act as a training ground for medical personnel who specialize in ICU services.
Dr. Arthur Kwizera thanked the Ministry of Health and Kisoro District Local Government for their support and said he chose to Support Kisoro Hospital because of a number of reasons, one of them being that Kisoro is his homeland.
