A tragic road crash incident in Kabale District has claimed the life of a 32-year-old man after a parked truck reportedly moved abruptly and knocked him dead.
The deceased has been identified as Tusiime Arnold, a resident of Kirijime Central Cell in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
According to police, the fatal incident happened on Saturday May 9th 2026 evening at around 6:30 p.m. involving motor vehicle registration number UBE 861C, a Fuso Fighter truck.
Police spokesperson for Kigezi Region, ASP Maate Elly, said the vehicle was allegedly started by Tusiime Gerald, 34, who works as a turn man on the same truck and is also a resident of the same area.
It is alleged that the deceased had been seated near the parked vehicle together with Gerald before the latter entered the truck and started the engine in an attempt to pump pressure into the vehicle system. However, the truck reportedly moved at high speed unexpectedly, causing the driver to lose control before knocking Arnold, who died instantly.
Police officers later visited and documented the scene before transferring the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
The vehicle was towed to police for inspection as investigations continue.
Police attributed the suspected cause of the crash to careless driving and warned motorists against handing vehicle keys to unqualified drivers or non-drivers, saying the practice endangers lives and public safety.
