Rubanda, Kanungu accidents claim 3 lives

Two people have died in a hit and run motor accident. The two were knocked by a yet to be known vehicle while they were riding on a motorcycle.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi police spokesperson, unknow people who witnessed the accident immediately hid the motorcycle, which is stifling their investigations into the incident.

Maate says that they identified the rider of the motorcycle as Arinda Jabal of 20 years, while the passenger is Turyatunga Gideon, 27 years, both residents of Rwaburindi village, Ikamiro parish, Muko Sub County in Rubanda district.

The accident occurred Tuesday night at around 22:20 hours at Kagano cell, Karengyere parish, in Muko Sub County, while the deceased were from Karengyere trading centre going back home.

Mr Maate told Voice of Muhabura that the rider died on spot while the passenger died on arrival at Mutolere hospital in Kisoro district where he had been rushed.

Inquiries are underway to establish the likely cause as well as hunting for the involved vehicle.

In Kanungu, Police is investigating circumstances under which a 56 years old headteacher died in a motor accident.

The accident which was serious and turned fatal was on 20/7/2020 at around 18:00 hours at Kanyamihini village along Kanyantorogo-Kihihi road. A one Rwemarika John, a headteacher of Zoroma primary school in Kambuga, and resident of Butogota T own council while riding motor cycle reg no UEV035W bajaj, hit a hump, over turned and was critically injured.

He was rushed to Kihihi health centre four where he succumbed moments later in the night.

Maate says that Police was only informed on Tuesday, and visited the scene and inquiries are ongoing.
