PC Bazimaziki was involved in the incident following a complaint by one Komuhangi Stephen, a bar owner in the area who said the deceased was threatening violence.

According to Komuhangi, the deceased approached him at his shop/bar and forcefully demanded for money while threatening to assault him with a big wooden stick.

Komuhangi said he narrowly survived after some people present managed to chase Uwimana away.

He later returned and grabbed Komuhangi by the neck and began to strangle him, only to be rescued by some people.

Komuhangi said he called the Police Officer after realizing that Uwimana was determined to kill him. The Police Officer went to arrest Uwimana at his home where he allegedly picked a panga and threatened to kill the Police officer who shot him in the leg in an act of self-defense.

Kigezi region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said investigations into the matter are still on-going.
