The state minister for Children and Youth Affairs, who also doubles as the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi has said parents need to pay closer attention to children with Special needs to ensure they are able to get the best care possible, allowing them to become productive citizens in the Country.
The remarks were made yesterday during the final sendoff of 4- year- old Keza Keyira at Muramba church of Uganda grounds.
Little Keza succumbed to heart failure on Thursday this week while seeking medical treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

Keyira, was diagnosed with Down syndrome a few years after she was born. She was the second born out of three children of Kisoro LCV Vice Chairperson Alex Nambajimana.
Hon. Mateke said it is unfortunate for a child to die at such a tender age however stressed that the journey of life for all will end with us all in the ground, it’s a matter of time.
She noted that many children are hidden in the villages with parents thinking that these kids with special needs have been afflicted by evil spirits or have been be-witched.
She called on parents to seek medical care for such children because they have a right to live full and productive lives too.
Mary Nambajimana, mother to the deceased said her daughter was born on December 1st, 2018, and was truly a bundle of joy.
However, she soon started developing some complications and when she was taken to Potters Village, a children’s hospital in Kisoro Municipality, she was diagnosed with Down syndrome.

Mary says, no expense was spared when it came to her daughter’s life as well as prayer that brought comfort and a higher understanding of God’s purpose.
Nambajimana, who also serves as the central division LCV Councilor said the health care support in Kisoro, Mulago and Mbarara was excellent however Keza’s health had got worse to the point of only making her comfortable until the time of her demise.
Kisoro District LCV Chairperson Abel Bizimana said using the knowledge of science and seeking medical care was a good option because it gave Keza a fighting chance.
Bizimana criticized some religious leaders who continue to hoodwink their congregants promising them miracles over medical care.
