The Kisoro resident district commissioner (RDC), Hajji Shafiq Sekandi Sengoba has cautioned Nyundo residents against unlawful revenge on domestic Dogs accusing them of eating their livestock.
There has been a growing concern in Nyundo Sub County where stray dogs randomly feed on people’s livestock like goats and sheep especially during the night hours.
This report was made to the RDC while touring and commissioning completed government projects in Nyundo Sub County by the area LC3 Chairman, Mutambuzi Fred.
According to Mutambuzi, these stray dogs come from villages of Mukozi and Rurembo to the surrounding villages where they eat at least 10 livestock from each household every night.
He noted that residents always wake up in the morning and shockingly find the remains of their livestock, hence being forced to attack any dog they meet on their way during the day.
RDC Hajji Shafiq Sekandi said that it is unlawful for any person to kill someone’s innocent dog because of just suspicions. He noted that dog owners are also to observe guidelines of dog keeping, especially chaining them, housing them, vaccinations and feeding them well.
He noted that he will send a team of veterinary doctors to Nyundo to assess the situation. He advised locals to be watchful of unvaccinated dogs because they can easily cause death through biting.
