National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Kisoro branch has embarked on a massive campaign of disconnecting all customers who have unpaid water bills of more than one month.
Area Manager Ariho Peter said Kisoro branch which serves close to 4,954 customers on a daily basis has accumulated unpaid water bills to the tune of 500 Million Ugandan Shillings.
According to Ariho, only 1,470 accounts pay their bills on time while 3,484 including private and commercial connections are absconding on payment.
The development comes at a time when UMEME, the national power supplier is threatening to disconnect several water boasters due to unpaid electricity bills.
These include Chuho Water Source (79 Million Shillings), Kisoro Hill Boaster (38 Million Shillings), Nyarusiza (6 Million) and Gasiza (7 Million) among others.
Ariho, whose work ethic has been described as tenacious and vigilant in promoting National Water and Sewerage Services in Kisoro says esteemed customers have failed to heed the call of continuous reminders via text message, radio talk shows and social media blast to pay their water bills.
“Due to the Clients’ negligence to pay for water, we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place therefore we have embarked on a massive campaign of disconnecting accounts that have unpaid bills beyond one month”, Ariho explained.
He urged clients to prioritize their water bills because every household that has an account with NWSC cannot go a day without using water.
Report payments to Staff
Ariho urged all clients to pay their water bills using banks, banking agents and Mobile Money instead of handing cash to field staff.
He noted that those who have already paid cash to field staff should report their dealings to the following numbers in order for the payments to be tracked and added to the account.( 0777-077-318, 0782434938 or toll-free lines 0800-200-977 or 0800-300-977)
