UMEME Spokesperson and Head of Communications Peter Kaujju has said the Power outage in Kisoro district that lasted over 10 hours on Sunday was because of the technical challenge on the Rwandan side, which is due to be fixed very soon.
Kaujju explained that the UMEME team worked around the clock, day and night to ensure that power in Kisoro is reconnected.
He however did not elaborate on the cause of the power outage. In the past, long dry spells or vandalism of electric power lines on the Ugandan side have been a key factor.
Recent late-night deployment of Security along the borders could be another reason for the power blackout, a security expert explained.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafik Sekandi declined to comment on the matter.
Voice of Muhabura, the leading Voice is working on fuel and the generator since 10am until to ensure customers get information and news.
Kaujju said UMEME is committed to serving Kisoro district.
