Kisoro District Health Officer, Dr. Nsabiyunva Stephen, has called upon the Ministry of Health to always consider the ever-growing population of Kigezi sub region while allocating resources and setting priorities for health services.
He made this call during the second Kigezi region annual Health Sector Joint Performance Review Workshop currently undergoing at St Paul’s Mutolere Secondary School in Kisoro district.
Dr. Nsabiyunva expressed concern about the uncertain rapid population growth in Kisoro District resulting from refugees, which he fears could overwhelm the existing healthcare infrastructure.
He emphasized the need for a more comprehensive approach to address the healthcare needs of the region, considering the unique challenges posed by the increasing population.
The Kigezi Joint Review Mission Workshop brought together key stakeholders from various sectors, including health, education, and local governments, USAID, Kabale Regional Referral Hospital to discuss and evaluate the progress of healthcare services in the region.
Kisoro Chief Administrative officer, Swaib Balaba called upon health facilities to have running water at the hospitals, urging the planning department to consider that element for health facilities.
Abel Bizimana, the Kisoro LC5 Chairperson called upon health workers to advocate for better health.
He said that there must be people in health who are more activists because the country is being disparaged by greedy people who are stealing millions of money that would go to health.

The two-days’ workshop is held under the theme, “Re-imagining an integrated and efficient health Care system for Equitable, sustainable, and Resilience Health Service Delivery.”
