The new Lions Club President for Kisoro, Sison Mugisha has said the club will organize more medical camps for people living with chronic diseases to promote healthy living.
Mugisha, who works as the HIV focal point person for Kisoro district took over the helm of the leadership yesterday evening from Mubuga Sacco Manager Pacrasiyo Mubanguzi, in a colorful celebration held at Ichumbi Hotel in Kisoro Municipality.
Lions Clubs, across the world work to empower, volunteer and partner to improve health and well-being of communities.
Mugisha says, his term of office as President will be used to bring much needed support to persons living with chronic illnesses, which are also known as non- communicable diseases.
These include hypertension, Diabetes and cancer among others.
Mugisha says data indicates that such life-threatening diseases are on the rise in the district, and this can be attributed to change in lifestyle as well as lack of enough information which can be provided through regular screening campaigns.
Benon Katate, first Vice District Governor said the club has an obligation to show the world that they are a group of people filled with passion to serve others and ensure that the district becomes a better place than how they found it.
Lions Club Kisoro, which has been viewed in the past, as an organization meant to accommodate people with a medical background, yesterday opened up its door to ordinary people from the business community as well as members of the pastoral ministry.
Pastor Ishima Milton of Kisoro Community Church, Fred Mbonye, Joel Mukiza, Dr. Mfitimana Leo, Dr Pascal Nsekuye of St. Francis Hospital Mutolere and Ngabire Aurelia are among the new members who joined Lions Club Kisoro.
State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke expressed utmost confidence in the leadership of Sison Mugisha.
She reminded the Lions that leadership is more about inspiring others to achieve greatness, and this can only be achieved by members showing commitment and dedication to the goals set.
She also contributed one million shillings towards running the club account.
