The Kisoro Municipal Mayor Richard Ndyana has confirmed that 809 Square meters of land, which is approximately, a fifth of an acre has been purchased at 45 Million Ugandan Shillings to ensure the construction of staff quarters at Zindiro HC III.
The development comes following a decision by Government to disburse 150 million shillings to Kisoro Municipality, back in January 2022 to help construct staff Quarters for health workers at Zindiro HC III.
The planned activity did not take place as the health facility located in Kamonyi Parish, Northern Ward, Kisoro Municipality did not have enough land to utilize the resources.
Municipal leaders organized a fundraising involving the community to raise enough funds to buy land near the health facility.
Ndyana says the fundraiser was a success because the community managed to contribute 40 Million shillings however the owner of the land wanted 45 Million shillings.
Ndyana said through more lobbying, the 5 million shillings was eventually added onto the 40 Million and given to the landowner.
He explained that the Ministry of Health as well as State House Officials are aware of the progress made and are willing to support the Municipality get access to the funds for construction.
According to Ndyana, the funds could have significantly reduced from the original offer as a result of COVID 19 pandemic as well as withdrawal of financial support from some development partners over the Anti- homosexual law 2023.
Ndyana says, the Municipality is now in the process of securing a land title for the land in the names of the Municipality to protect it from wrong elements who might want to steal Government land.
About Zindiro HC III
The health facility has become popular among the residents in Zindiro serving people from as far as Mutanda, Rubuguri and the Democratic republic of Congo.
The health facility manages to serve at least 50 patients daily and over 1,200 outpatients every month.
