Kisoro District Local Government has on Monday received an unspecified number of mosquito nets from the Ministry of health in a national campaign to curb Malaria in Uganda.
This was confirmed by the district Malaria focal person, Muntu Geoffrey Akankwasa.
Speaking to Voice of Muhabura, Muntu said that each household will get mosquito nets according to the number of people in it but all children must get.
He added that house to house distribution will be next month championed by VHTs, LC1 chairpersons and data collection managers.
“Today, the ministry of health through the National Medical Stores delivered the mosquito nets at the district, but we are going to forward them to the Sub Counties and will be received by the Sub County Chiefs.”
“This is a mass campaign and everyone above 5 years is set to get a mosquito net.” Muntu explained.
The public is also urged to use the nets appropriately especially in this dry season to avoid an upsurge of Malaria cases in the district similar to last year’s scenario.
Meanwhile, Muntu warned all those who use the nets as scare clothes, fishing nets, housings for poultry among others saying they risk arrest as a new system to track them has been developed.
He also appealed to politicians to desist from claiming that they are the initiators of nets from government because they did not lobby for them.
