At least 250 people from the seven parishes within Kisoro Municipality are set to access Parish Development Funds by the end of today.
Hundreds of people, since Monday this week have been queued up, one behind another from the wee hours of the morning till late in the hopes of successfully opening a bank account to access PDM funds.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajji Shafiq Sekandi said all those people who thought PDM was a lie are now seeing first-hand the opportunity to improve quality of life by accessing the Government loan.
Sekandi, who was the guest of Honor in a function held at the mayor’s gardens yesterday urged Parish chiefs and Community Development Officers to help the communities in Kisoro access funds.
“We no longer want to see poor people in our communities, with torn trousers and pockets. Use the money wisely and work quietly so that your families can develop themselves”, Sekandi said.
Over Six billion Ugandan shillings remain on PDM SACCO accounts across the entire district.
The Kisoro Municipality Commercial Officer, Aaron Mfitumukiza said communities are blessed to have such a visionary President like Mr. Museveni who saw it fit for communities to select beneficiaries over a computer system.
The Kisoro Municipality Mayor, Ndyana Richard commended beneficiaries for being patient with the process adding that those who have not yet benefitted will be considered very soon.
DFCU and Centenary Banks in Kisoro are working around the clock to ensure clients access funds in a timely manner.
By press time, only people with bank accounts in DFCU bank had started receiving their money.
