The Kisoro District Roads Committee has today approved the district and municipal work plans for financial year 2023/24.
Like other districts in Uganda, Kisoro district was allocated one billion shillings road fund to boost and maintain road networks within districts.
According to the Kisoro district Engineer James Karamira, the government has released 500 million shillings for two quarters while the remaining half will also be released in the third and fourth quarter of this financial year.
He noted that utilization of such road funds can only be approved by the district road fund.

Kisoro district roads committee comprises all Members of Parliament, District LCV chairperson, District Chief Administrative Officer, District Engineer, Municipality Mayor and Town Clerks among others.
Kisoro District Road fund is chaired by the Bufumbira East Member of Parliament, Hon Dr James Nsaba Buturo.
Four Members of parliament attended today’s meeting. These include Hon. Niyonsaba Alex of Bufumbira south, Woman MP, Hon. Minister Sarah Mateke, Hon. Paul Bucyana of Kisoro Municipality and Hon. Kamara John of Bufumbira north.
The Bufumbira South Member of Parliament, Hon. Eng Niyonsaba Alex aka Seruganda chaired today’s closed-door meeting in absence of committee’s chairperson, Hon. Dr. James Nsaba Buturo who was engaged in other official duties.
Hon. Niyonsaba Seruganda said that the committee has resolved and jointly agreed that road works need to start next month in order to utilize the monies within the right time.
He noted that the committee appreciated and approved all work plans to work on both municipal and district roads within this financial year.
He added that priority will be given to roads located in areas that are not soggy to avoid the negative effects of the ongoing rains. He commended the government for approving the one billion additional road fund because it will boost the roads sector in the district that has always received meagre funding.

He however expressed concerns towards Kisoro municipality whose work outcome may not be efficient and not on time due to lack of road equipment machines. The committee allowed Kisoro municipality to borrow from the regional works headquarters or hire machines for this cause.
