The Muhabura Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev Godfrey Mbitse has commended Christians who make the choice to wed in Church as opposed to cohabiting, without first seeking the blessing of Holy Matrimony.
Mbitse made the remarks while officiating a mass wedding of 19 couples from Kagezi Church of Uganda in Kanaba Sub County, Kisoro district.
He explained that the institution of marriage is coming under serious fire from external pressures that seek to destroy what God has brought together.
Mbitse said choosing a good wife and going through with seeking marriage counselling and then wedding is one of the ways of securing a long-lasting marriage.
Rev Bahati Enock, the archdeacon of Gisorora Archdeaconry commended the bishop for blessing the Christians of Kagezi parish who had a burning desire to get right before God and men.
It was a day of joy and celebration as couples, dressed in their suits and gowns expressed happiness about the decision they made.
Several couples said domestic violence and child neglect are real challenges among couples who have not wedded in church.
Benon Rutungana, the head of Christians at Kagezi parish commended the church for supporting the couples in getting married before the house of God.
He urged Christians not to focus on the fear of having a pompous and flashy wedding ceremony but to get right before God and take the vow of faithfulness and union between a husband and wife.
