Bukimbiri county MP hopeful Asgario Turyagyenda has called upon the people of Bukimbiri to distance themselves from politics based on religion and tribe but rather focus on developmental issues.
Turyagyenda made the remarks yesterday as he campaigned in Kirundo Sub County ahead of the by-election on Thursday next week.
He stressed the importance of having a leader who is able to address issues affecting the people of Bukimbiri County.
Turyagyenda advised against hate speech and abusive language that has started to crop up among other political camps targeting his supporters.
Recently, a social media video shows the director of communications and Public Relations in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Hon. Dombo Lumala comparing candidates in the Bukimbiri County by-election race as a dog and another a wolf.
In the video, Lumala stresses the importance of a dog which is loyal to a master while a wolf which has no owner and can only be destructive.
The dog- wolf comment has since left a sour taste in the mouth of most voters who are questioning how and why a senior NRM official would say such a comment.
Turyagyenda demanded for an apology for Lumala’s remarks saying, he had strongly offended the people of Bukimbiri.
The Vice Chairperson for Kisoro district leaders’ forum who doubles as the Sub Dean at Seseme Cathedral, Canon Philip Muhire says that the people of Bukimbiri deserve respect from whoever is seeking votes from them.
He called upon voters and candidates to avoid abusive language during campaigns for peace to prevail even after elections.
