Tables turned for worst yesterday for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag bearer and his entourage when they encountered a unified FDC camp canvassing for votes in Rubuguri Town Council, Bukimbiri County, Kisoro district.

According to the Electoral Commission roadmap, FDC candidate James Owebeyi was supposed to campaign in Rubuguri town council, Eddie Kwizera (NRM) in Kirundo Sub County, Asgario Turyagyenda (Independent) in Nyundo Sub County and Edward Mutabazi (Independent) in Bukimbiri Sub County.

As the day took shape, the FDC camp led by FDC Party President, Patrick Oboi Amuriat and other high profile party leaders including Roland Mugume kaginda had amassed a significant crowd which was eating up every word of FDC flag bearer James Owebeyi with such jubilation.

Later in the day, something unusual occurred.

The NRM party Convoy led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja accompanying the NRM flag bearer Eddie Kwizera decided to drive through the FDC rally in Rubuguri town council, an action they soon learnt was detrimental to them.

To make matters worse, the NRM convoy had the audacity to stop and try to address an already charged up FDC crowd.

It was not all fist fights and loud shouting as some FDC supporters took the moment for a photo opportunity with Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Eddie Kwizera Wa Gahungu simply explained his actions as, his team passing through to their next destination.

The next stop for the FDC camp was Rubuguri playground, where fans were surprised to find a state owned Helicopter, Nabbanja’s choice of movement while in Kisoro had landed in the middle of the field.

Patrick Amuriat described the actions of NRM as showing lack of intelligence and common sense, knowing that FDC was scheduled to campaign in Rubuguri town council.

Icumu Rya Bukimbiri James Owebeyi said NRM’s miscalculation is a clear indication of them not having a clear strategy.

He advised the NRM camp to quit the electoral race before 11th August 2022 instead of losing in front of the whole world.
